The M3-SE-VOICE contains two major internal components: a network switch (Sixnet ET-8MS-OEM card) and an analog FXS (Vocality BASICS two-wire integrated device) to IP device. The main purpose of the switch is to provide additional IP data ports. The FXS to IP piece converts legacy analog phone lines (2) to VoIP (Voice over IP). In most cases the VoIP side of the interface device uses the SIP standard to communicate with some sort of “backend” voice gateway (generally CME, Cisco Call Manager, Avaya, etc.).
